Real Oviedo full back Abel Bretones appeared in the Press Room today ahead of the training session at El Requexón.

Following the Christmas break and his suspension, the Asturian will be back available to Luis Carrión this weekend in Ferrol. Regarding the period without matches, Abel commented that "it's been a month without playing now, and I have been looking forward to being available for the Gaffer again. The break and the suspension coincided, but it is also true that I had time to rest. I am looking forward to it."

Asked for his impression of the team in the first match of 2024, the defender admitted that "it's true that the draw was a blow. We were excited. We want to have a good second half of the season, give it everything, and fight for the playoffs."

With respect to the formation, the left back highlighted that "the Gaffer asks me to be attacking and I try to do that. I want to improve and grow."

Asked about the need to get an away victory, something which the team found difficult to do during the first half of the campaign, Abel Bretones stated that "we always look to get the win. Against Eldense things went well and the team did great. We want the victory on Saturday. Everything is very even, but we need to get into good form and push up the table. Ferrol is a difficult opponent, they are doing things well. We are going there with our own threats and we have to put in a good performance at A Malata."

Finally, discussing the importance of keeping clean sheets, the full back reasoned that "in Segunda it's important to keep clean sheets. We saw that last year. We have to work well in defence to keep clean sheets and then build from the back."
