This morning, the Oviedo City Council Press Room hosted the presentation for the food drive campaign that the Real Oviedo Foundation, the Food Bank of Asturias, and the City Hall of Oviedo will carry out this week in Oviedo.
It is about continuing the initiative that the Oviedo City Council and the Food Bank started a few months ago, with 8,446 kilograms of food collected for Ukrainian families to date. This will culminate at the match that the Real Oviedo first team will play against Ibiza.
In addition to the other three entities that were represented at the event, the APARO was represented as well, and will be a close collaborator in this initiative with several of the peñas’ locations as food collection points.
On behalf of the Oviedo City Council, the event was attended by the Councillor for Social Policies and Sports, Conchita Martínez, and the Delegate Councillor for Social Policies, Leticia González. They expressed the importance of “channelling Oviedo’s solidarity with the Asturian society,” emphasizing the commitment of, “the Real Oviedo Foundation to concentrate the help of the Oviedistas, with five food collection points at the locations of the peñas, and a final collection at the important match on Sunday.”
The Director of the Real Oviedo Foundation, César Martín, also highlighted, “the fantastic initiative that has been underway for a few months,” considering that “there is no better time, with the help of the APARO and the peñas, and we expect a massive outpouring of Oviedismo, which never fails. The Oviedistas always respond when they are needed and, with the Association of the Peñas, all of our resources are going to be used so that the great work carried out by the Foodbank of Asturias can continue.” César Martín wanted to encourage “people to go to the stadium. It is going to be a day to remember, and we can all help families in need.”
On behalf of the Foodbank of Asturias, Bernando Sopeña, its President, thanked “Real Oviedo and the City Council for their collaboration,” in addition to endorsing the idea that Real Oviedo-Ibiza match is "the culmination to close a campaign that has had major success.” Like César Martín, the President of the Foodbank has referred to Oviedismo as “an important movement that we hope will help us collaborate with many Ukrainian families.”
Finally, on behalf of the Association of the Peñas of Real Oviedo, Adrián Fernández highlighted that “On behalf of the peñas we are delighted to collaborate with the Foodbank of Asturias and the Real Oviedo Foundation, and we also encourage all Oviedistas to contribute their grain of sand to this great cause.”
