Real Oviedo goalkeeper Joan Femenías was today charged with becoming the first player to appear in the Press Room at El Requexón during the 2021/2022 season.
Following three days of preseason training, the shot stopper described his feelings upon the team's return to training, saying that "it's been very good. I was looking forward to seeing everyone. We are happy to be here and happy about going back to work. We are giving it everything so that things go well."
Now going into his second year at the club, the goalkeeper reasoned that "it's important for me, I'm privileged. I was excited about staying here, being where I want to be and doing what I want to do. It's important to have stability and continuity in order to be able to grow and take steps forward."
Asked about the changes that are being seen in the squad, with several teammates now having left after finishing their contracts with the club, Femenías reasoned that "that's football. The squads change every season. There is going to be a big change, but the players who come in will be important for us. With our daily work and by being a family, we are going to be able to win."
Regarding the return of fans to the Carlos Tartiere, the keeper believes that "it's the best thing that can happen to football, because football is all about fans and emotions. Being able to make them happy on the field motivates you, and it's what makes you achieve objectives. We have to be strong at home and, with the fans, we can do it."
With respect to the current gap in the squad in the other goalkeeping spot, Femenías admitted that "I'm focused on preparing myself and being at my best, for the team. Football is about the daily work and improving yourself. I need to learn and improve. I'm focused on that, independently of whoever may join."
Finally, the Real Oviedo goalkeeper stressed the importance of hard work in achieving targets, highlighting that "we need to have the highest of demands. We have to always improve in everything and help the team to achieve a much better league position. We have to be responsible with the things we say, work on the things the Gaffer tells us, enjoy it, and make the fans feel like they can identify with us."
