Real Oviedo goalkeeper Joan Femenías today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón.
Following last weekend's triumph over Sporting de Gijón, the keeper stated that "it was an important victory. We needed it to turn our form around. It's a special win, and three important points due to the confidence it gives us for the run-in."
Regarding Real Oviedo's performance at El Molinón, Joan believes that "we put in a similar performance to in previous games, but we were more clinical in the two areas. The team had been doing things well, but we created chances against Sporting. We have to keep going like this to get results."
Ahead of the weekend's fixture against Girona, Femenías highlighted that "they are in good form and close to the playoffs, but we have to focus on ourselves. We have to get the points, because it's one of the seven 'cup finals' we have left. We are focused on the next match and on winning, nothing else. We are going to go for it. We have to beat Girona. I'm not thinking about anything else."
Asked about the team's defensive improvement, the shot stopper reasoned that "this is football and you go on runs. During the good times you have to improve and grow, and in the bad times you have to stay calm, concentrate and stay proud. We are working to get everything back on track. We have stuck together, we are a tight group. We are focused, working, and we carry it out onto the pitch. We have to keep going like this during the seven 'cup finals' we have left."
With respect to his feelings on a personal level, having been almost ever present in the league this season, Femenías said that "I am lucky to be here. I came here to grow and help the team. I still feel the same as I did when I first arrived here."
Finally, asked about the controversy caused by the creation of the European Super League, Femenías was clear in saying that "it's proven that football was, is, and will always be for the fans. People can't play with their passion for their own gain. I think we all agree that everything has to be earnt on the pitch. There is nothing more important than the fans and the way they feel."
