The Real Oviedo goalkeeper Aarón Escandell appeared before the media ahead of this Sunday’s clash against FC Barcelona, a match that the Oviedo goalkeeper approaches as an opportunity to prove himself and compete at the highest level.

The goalkeeper acknowledged the team’s intense work during the week: “The week is long, we’ve been preparing for the match since Monday, focused on what a great rival that practically does everything well will demand of us. We have to stay fully alert.”

Escandell did not hide that the current situation is not comfortable, but he insisted on the importance of maintaining enthusiasm: “It’s not pleasant for anyone, none of us are proud, and it’s our responsibility. But if you don’t face these matches with excitement… when you’re a kid, you dream of playing against these teams. We have to go in with enthusiasm.”

The goalkeeper was clear when recalling the defeat in Pamplona, one of the most painful of the season: “It’s the defeat that has hurt the most this season. I left very frustrated. We struggled to score goals, and now we do, we went ahead twice, and they turned it around. We were deeply affected.” Even so, the message is one of absolute commitment: “As long as there’s hope, we’ll give it our all. We’ll give everything for this badge, and Sunday is another final.”

Regarding the last days of the winter transfer market, Escandell wanted to convey calm and unity within the group: “The day-to-day among us is very good, and we train with great intensity. I have no idea about the market; others are responsible for that, but I’m sure that those of us who are here will give it our all.” On a personal level, the goalkeeper showed he is fully focused on the club: “I haven’t received any offers, nor am I considering it. I’m calm and focused on Real Oviedo.”

Escandell acknowledged that the team’s current situation is also felt off the field: “Of course, what’s said about Real Oviedo stings, even on the street, but you can’t let it get to you. We’re going to fight until the numbers say otherwise, starting with Barcelona.”

Mental work is key: “It’s difficult to manage, and we’re working on it with the psychologist. The mind is very important. We’re noticing improvement, and they’re giving us tools to handle it off the field as well.”

Regarding the opponent, the goalkeeper highlighted the challenge’s difficulty and the individual talent of the Barcelona team: “We’re going to have a lot of work. It’s a team that makes things very difficult for you. I really like Lamine Yamal, although I would also highlight Raphinha for everything he brings.”

Despite everything, Escandell believes in the team’s chances: “It’s very difficult, but not impossible. Through hard work, giving 100%, and believing in what the coach asks of us. We have to give it our all on the field and, no matter what happens, leave with honor.”
