Dani Calvo: “People believe in us and we will go for it”

The centre back, who is coming back from a head injury, declares his confidence before the crucial encounter in Huesca

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!
Following the injury suffered last Saturday against Levante, the defender stated that “I’m already recovering. I spent two days at home following concussion protocols. It was a hard knock that left me without vision and made it impossible to continue competing safely. The most sensible thing to do was ask to be substituted. But I’m now available for the game against Huesca.”

The defender also commented on the changes forced by the various injuries that occurred during the match against Levante. “Fortunately they were just minor issues, but this required us to make changes in positions that are normally maintained throughout the match. Eze and Oier led the team together well and earned three very important points.”

Calvo didn’t hesitate in pointing out Eze’s role, “Eze, Marco Esteban, Jaime Vázquez… we’re well covered. Eze has incredible physical attributes. He’s a humble kid who wants to learn, and being part of the professional setup will help him improve. He has a bright future.”

The next match will have an emotional component for the defender. “To play at Huesca is always beautiful and special, since it’s my hometown. But I represent Real Oviedo. We are at a decisive moment and we must win. We can achieve automatic promotion and we are fighting for it.”

Discussing the prospect of automatic promotion, the defender made it clear, “The hope and hunger in the dressing room is enormous. We’re four points behind, but we have head-to-head matches coming up. We are in a positive position and these next two matches are crucial. People believe in us and we will go for it.”

The centre back underlined the fundamental role the team can play away from Tartiere, “We’ve set our goal of winning away. At home we took a step forward, we were the protagonists, and we want to do the same at Huesca; create opportunities and earn all three points.”

Finally, as for the players that are recovering for the run-in, Dani Calvo reassured that, “the good news is that the injured players are getting better. The Gaffer always says that we’re all important, and it will be like that in this run-in. Regarding Huesca, we know it is a crucial match for them too. They have injured players, but they compete at a high level and they play with a clear plan at home. We will give our best version.”
