A Big Victory to Keep the Dream Alive

Real Oviedo today once again demonstrated that they want to fight to the end for promotion. In a match marked by the intensity and an early red card for the home keeper, Veljko Paunovic's team picked up three important points with a 2-1 away win over SD Huesca at El Alcoraz.

The match began evenly, but things took a sharp twist in the 19th minute when home goalkeeper Juan Pérez was dismissed, after handling the ball outside the box when Viñas was about to turn the ball into an empty net. Real Oviedo made the most of their numerical advantage, and started to take control of the ball, playing with patience and accuracy. That was when Santi Cazorla's magic arrived. The captain met Dani Calvo's header back across the box to make it 1-0 with a fine volley, sending the travelling Oviedistas into raptures.

It would be in the second half, with Real Oviedo pushing forward, that the second goal would arrive. Hassan capitalised on a fine assist from Alemão to turn the ball home first time, making the score 2-0 and calming the Asturians' fears. Despite a 70th minute goal from Soko to reduce the deficit, Los Carbayones knew how to manage the final stages of the encounter well, picking up a hard-fought but deserved victory.

This win moves Real Oviedo onto 65 points and just outside the automatic promotion places, ahead of what promises to be an exciting end to the season. Now, with time to rest, thoughts turn to the fixture against Racing de Santander.
