Real Oviedo and Wakatake Group have reached a collaboration agreement, to work on the training and development of Japanese players and coaches. The first project resulting from this link between the Asturian club and the Japanese youth development company will come into effect in August 2021, when three young Japanese players arrive in Oviedo. These footballers will take part in an immersive one-month training programme with the club’s youth teams during their preseason workouts.

This first project will see the three Japanese players get the opportunity to experience Real Oviedo´s methodology at first-hand. They will combine individual training sessions with team workouts, training alongside several of our different youth squads. This will be an inmersive experience that goes beyond football, given that the players will also have the chance to discover the city of Oviedo and its culture, learn the language, and experience the identity and values of our club.

In addition to this first project, both parties are aligned in a shared vision, which will see a number of international projects take place. These will be focused on youth development, both in Oviedo and in Japan, as well as working towards supporting the growth of Japanese youth football, and boosting the identity of Real Oviedo in Japan. This development plan will include high-performance individual programmes, clinics, international tournaments, coaching courses, eLearning programmes, and many more projects.

This collaboration agreement with a historic Spanish football club like Real Oviedo represents a great success for Wakatake Group. It is a great responsibility and an honour for all of our team to be able to work hand-in-hand with Real Oviedo, in the fantastic mission of supporting the development of youth football in Japan and in the rest of the world. We are sure that the values, history, tradition, and strategic vision for the future of this special club will be very much appreciated by the Japanese football ecosystem,” said Takeshi Inawaka, Wakatake Group CEO.
