Summer 2021 will be remembered for the expansion of Campus Real Oviedo. In addition to the camps in Oviedo, Tineo, Ribadesella and Navia, for the first time in history there is also a version in the USA. The city of Chicago is this week hosting the first international edition of Campus Real Oviedo, with around one hundred youngsters taking part.
As part of our plan for brand expansion, the team from the capital of Asturias has reached an agreement with an academy in Chicago, which now sees the club holding its summer camp in Windy City. This agreement is one of a number of such deals with academies in different countries. These other academies had plans to hold further summer camps in their countries this year, but the pandemic has prevented them from doing so.
Led by Iván Palacios, a coach for Los Azules, a total of one hundred boys and girls in two groups are honing their footballing skills, in accordance with the Real Oviedo methodology. The morning session sees the youngest players work on their early footballing development, while the afternoon sees technical sessions for teenagers.
This agreement with the academy in Chicago is here to stay. It is the first such campus in the USA, but the project will develop into other states once the health situation has improved. The collaboration agreement will also see a selection of the youngsters from Chicago travel to Oviedo to take part in sports programmes in Asturias.
