Early this afternoon, Real Oviedo Director of Football, Francesc Arnau, offered his assessment of the news of the postponement of the league season, which is now official following LaLiga's statement.
A general league postponement has now been announced, two days after the club requested it, following the initial measure of matches being played behind closed doors. Francesc Arnau highlighted that "it's a situation that we have to take in a rational manner. It was common sense to take this decision. The most important thing right now is to contain the pandemia. None of the other things matter. We are in a situation of general crisis and we have to do everything possible to help. On an on-field level, the club will maintain minimal services, as long as there is no situation which leads us to act otherwise. We have to act with common sense, and leave everything open for whatever may happen."
This is a situation which affects the first team, but on a secondary level. "There are not any cases of coronavirus in our team. Fortunately, there aren't any at the moment, but we are not safe. We will work on the plan and we are taking steps to prevent it. The B team will train separately from the first team, there will be no contact, and we will create airtight departments. That way, if any case emerges, then only one of the teams will be affected."
Right now, the on-field situation takes a backseat, said Arnau. He concluded by stating that "football doesn't matter. People's health matters, as does how to contain the expansion of the virus."
