Real Oviedo has reached an agreement for Antonio Rivas to re-join the club as the Head of Academy. He has signed a four-year contract, and has now joined the club's management structure. He will head up the planning for the club's youth teams going into the new season.
Antonio Rivas Martínez is 55 years old and was born in Alcázar de San Juan in 1965. The new Head of Academy will now begin his third spell at Real Oviedo, having previously represented the club as a player and as Head Coach. Antonio Rivas spent ten seasons with Los Carbayones during his time as a player, all of them in the First Division. He played more than 250 games for the club and helped Real Oviedo to enjoy one of the greatest spells in the club's history.
In 2001/2002, Antonio Rivas begun his second spell at the club. He first took charge of Real Oviedo's Liga Nacional youth side, then the B team, before taking over as First Team Head Coach during the 2002/2003 season. Antonio Rivas remained at the club throughout some of the most tumultuous moments in our history, departing the club in 2005/2006 with a promotion to Segunda B to his name.
He also represented Atlético de Madrid, RCD Mallorca, Albacete Balompié and Benidorm as a player. He worked as a coach in Atlético de Madrid's academy, alternating between roles as Head Coach of the B Team and the División de Honor sides, winning the league with the latter. He has also worked for Alcorcón B and Fuenlabrada CF.
This move sees Real Oviedo continue to restructure its sports management and academy departments, with the remaining roles being announced in the coming days.
Antonio Rivas will be presented alongside Rubén Reyes at 12:30 this Wednesday at the NMR Carlos Tartiere. Antonio Rivas will not make any statement until that time.
