Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s final training session ahead of the trip to Cádiz.

The Coach described the week as “a little strange. We rested on Monday and returned to training on Tuesday, but generally it’s all been good. We will decide (the team) tomorrow, but nearly everyone is available.”

Asked about the importance of the trip to the Carranza, the Coach explained that, “they would be three very nice and very important points, just like last week. We need to remain focused and as a team if we want to earn anything this weekend. Our opponent reached the playoffs last season. They remained in this division because of their away performance, but they had a fantastic team, and this year they are going along the same path.” With respect to the pace they have on the wings, Anquela highlighted that, “they are about much more than just this. They know what they are aiming for at all times, they never lose hope, and have quality all over the pitch. They are a grand club.”

Regarding the team’s mental state, Anquela was very clear, saying that, “we would be stupid to get ahead of ourselves. We have to run a lot and suffer to win any match. We played well on Sunday, but we only got three points for it. Nothing more. They were three very hard-earned points. We are going to need to fight until the end of the season.”

In addition, highlighting the importance of players who are not currently getting a lot of game time, the Coach declared himself satisfied because “we need to stick together in order to take this ship to port. We are on a constant state of alert, because if you relax a little, then you don’t win. We need to always be at 100% in order not to lose, and then we need the
necessary luck on top of that. It’s clear that we are not superior to anybody else, but nor are we inferior. We need to be humble, always. This is going to be a long, hard season, right up until the final day. I’ve said it all along. If a team is prepared for that, then things will turn out well in the end. Our objective is to emerge from Cádiz alive and with the three points, as that’s what we want to do in every away game. We try to win and do as well as possible. We have no reason to get cocky. If we were to do that, then we would be stupid,” he concluded.
