Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the penultimate training session of the week.

Real Oviedo travel to Seville this weekend to face Sevilla’s B team. With respect to how the team goes into the match having won three points last weekend against Osasuna, the Carbayón Coach believes that, “every match is a different story. We are going to play Sevilla Atlético, and the past counts for nothing. We are only thinking about Sunday, competing, and keeping going like this. There is no reason to get cocky, we are not superior to anyone else. We must have this clear in our minds first of
all, and then the match will turn out however it does. We can’t go to  Sevilla arrogantly, because we will suffer if we do so.”

Talking about the fine form the team is currently enjoying, with five wins in the previous six matches, Juan Antonio Anquela stated that, “right now we’re on a good run and we shouldn’t change things too much. We must stay focused, since you need to do a lot in order to win. We must play well fora long period and compete.” In addition, regarding the change in the team’s performances, mentality, and results, Anquela admitted that, “we weren’t playing badly before, but we were making mistakes. Now we are having more luck, or going through a patch which is letting us win. It’s clear that results reinforce the day-to-day work.”

With respect to the next opponent, Sevilla Atlético, Anquela pointed out that, “some big teams have been unable to beat them at their ground. They were towards the top of the table last season. Sevilla’s academy is fantastic; one of the best in Spain. Today, they have the second-best academy in Spain according to the statistics.”

Asked about the possibility of ending 2017 in a playoff position with wins in Seville and against Cultural, the Coach said that, “the most important thing for me is the points tally, since nobody can take points off you. Obviously the two things are connected, but I’m not so worried about the table. We want consistency in our work, and to pick up as many points as possible.”

Regarding the possibility of adding to the team during the winter transfer window, Juan Antonio Anquela said that, “I don’t like the January window at all. I’m not a fan of it, but it’s there. If something good comes of it, then great. They must be better than what we have here, or we won’t do business. If we can get suitable players then great, but if not then we move on. I am happy with who we have here. We have had injuries, but we have fought through them. We can’t have 30 players in the squad. I want my team, and if I need anything then I can find it in the academy. The lads in the B team are capable of stepping up when necessary.”

Finally, talking about injuries going into the next match in Seville, the Coach stated that, “we have a couple of niggles, but the important thing isthat we are getting players back now. We could risk Aarón now if we wanted to, but it wouldn’t be the best option.” Furthermore, regarding Fabbrini’s return to the team, Juan Antonio Anquela said that, “I’m no doctor, but if they tell me it’s a cruciate ligament injury then I expect it to be a long time. If there is a doctor somewhere who can get him back in half the time, then he should open a huge surgery for people to go to! I want Fabbrini back in there now, but in the necessary circumstances and with full guarantees,” he concluded.
