This was one of those most enjoyable of victories. Effort and hard work were the key as Real Oviedo overcame all the obstacles thrown their way to earn three points at the Viejo Nervión.

Anquela opted for the same eleven once more, but Yeboah received a straight red barely fifteen minutes into the match. Real Oviedo ended up with ten men, but stuck to their guns. Alfonso twice intervened to clear the danger, before Rocha tried his luck from range with a shot which went wide. The goal arrived on the half-hour mark. David Rocha’s direct free
kick flew into the top corner of the net. Linares had the final chance of the first half, but the keeper swiped the ball off his boots after he had originally won the one-on-one.

After the break, Sevilla Atlético increased their control of the ball, but Real Oviedo defended very professionally. Alfonso was to feature heavily once more with two fine saves, and the team fought hard in defence to deny the home side’s attacks. Linares had a good chance to make it 2-0, but his effort from Johannesson’s pass hit the post. Just ten minutes before full time the referee, Valdés Aller, awarded a penalty for a foul committed by Christian Fernández. However, Alfonso came to the rescue, saving the penalty and allowing Real Oviedo to take the three points home with them.

This was a serious and hard-fought triumph which was enjoyed by the 100 travelling fans at the Viejo Nervión.
