Anquela: “This division involves suffering”

The Real Oviedo Head Coach showed his confidence that “we are a good football team” and asked for “calmness and to know what we want”

The Real Oviedo Head Coach appeared in the press room this morning following team training at El Requexón. Following the work done this week, Anquela commented that “Sunday’s match is over, and our spirits must be high. We were a bit upset, but within the realms of normality, and now we are thinking about the next match. We are focusing on the good points, it’s clear that we made many mistakes and the opponent punished us. Those mistakes weren’t there until Sunday; the day when we most needed to do well, and we failed in the important moments. We must stay calm, know what we want, and have one thing clear. The players need to be prepared for this division, and this division involves suffering. Anyone who doesn’t
know how to deal with the blows that football gives you will struggle. At Real Oviedo, we must get used to the fact we are going to suffer, right up to the last minute, and we must have that clear.”

In addition, the coach recognised that “Last Sunday I lived a marvellous experience. We lost, but I went home saying, “wow, how they push us on!” … and this is something nice, and we mustn’t ever lose it. Players must realise that we’re at a club like this, and that if anyone doesn’t run then they will be found out very quickly. We run further because the crowd pushes us on. I think we are ready to do it, we are a good football team that has started with problems, but we must be ready for everything, know how to suffer, and join together when bad moments come.”

Regarding the match far away from the Carlos Tartiere this Saturday in Almería, Real Oviedo’s coach assured that “we will try to adapt to the situation and work out how to interpret it correctly. I will do what I think gives us the best chance of a good performance.”

About specific cases, and asked about Mariga, the Coach was clear that “we must have patience with Mariga because he hasn’t played for months, and I’m not going to throw him to the lions on the first day. We must stay calm. This will be a long season, and it seems as though it’s a catastrophe for those who don’t play the first match. Everybody is going to play and participate, and especially those who ask me to pick them with their performances. We must move forward little by little, doing things with the necessary patience.”

Regarding this weekend’s opponent, Anquela was clear about UD Almería, saying that “they have a good team, and have built a very balanced squad. I watched their match the other day, a Second Division match, where the team who scored was the winner. This is how it is every week and every Sunday. It’s impossible to know who will be at the top of the league. I repeat again that anyone who doesn’t know this division and the terrain they’re working in will struggle. The team has had two seasons lacking a final push, and we’ll see if this year we’re lucky enough to take a step further and compete in the way the people want,” he concluded.
