Real Oviedo Head Coach Juan Antonio Anquela appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today.
The Coach began by assessing the status of the injured players, commenting that “Mossa is undergoing tests, he has some pains and we need to find out where they are coming from. Ibra is back, but the rest are still injured, so we’ll have to wait.”
Asked about the transfer window and whether any requests were made to the technical secretary this winter, Anquela stated that “there is nothing to talk about. It’s easy; if you have the money, you make a transfer, and if not, then you don’t. Every team did what they could to strengthen their squad, but I don’t know what everyone’s accounts look like. They should all be similar. I have my players, and I’ll stick with them until the end, and that’s that.”
With the next match against Cádiz this Sunday in the Carlos Tartiere and possible absences due to injury, the Real Oviedo coach considers that “we have to look at ourselves first, they don’t have any injured players. They have a deep, talented squad, but we have to match that. Staying on top of things is complicated.”
With Ibra’s return comes the possibility of playing two strikers. Commenting on the scenario, Anquela emphasised that “that is a possibility. I am only asking that they be ready and that they know we want them each step of the way. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages. We are only asking this team to compete and then compete some more, and to be aware of what’s in front of us. We know what’s coming.”
When asked about the missed penalty by Oswaldo Alanís at La Romareda and who will be chosen to take the next penalty, the Jaen-born coach responded saying that “criticising the taker is easy, especially when he fails to convert. The taker was supposed to be Joselu, but he got a knock so we chose someone else; Oswaldo. You don’t need to keep wondering about how it works, we put him down as the taker and he takes the penalties. If you’ve never missed a penalty it’s because you never take them. It’s that simple. That’s how it is, you don’t need to keep thinking about it.”
Finally, speaking on the departure of Richard Boateng, the Real Oviedo coach commented that “it’s easy to leave for whoever doesn’t want to be here.” Moreover, when asked if one of the players from the Real Oviedo B Team would fill the spot left by the Ghanaian midfielder, Anquela considered it an option saying that “if we need someone else, Jimmy would step up. If not him, someone else. The lads are playing well.”
