Real Oviedo full back Carlos Martínez appeared in the Press Room today at El Requexón.

After this weekend’s triumph against Cádiz, the defender from Navarra stated that “I am happy with the victory and with winning at home again. Personally speaking, I am happy to be back in the team. I am feeling much better, managing the matches and getting into a rhythm. I want to keep helping the team.”

With respect to his return to the team, Carlos Martínez noted that “I had that injury which kept me out for two months and meant I had to start again from scratch. I started playing again in December and now I have the opportunity to keep playing. The Coach has been very clear with me; he has always said that if I am doing well, I will play. It is important to have his trust. If I am feeling well, I can give a lot to the team.”

Asked about the ovation that he received on Sunday at the Carlos Tartiere, the full back commented that “it is nice to feel the love from the fans. If I can keep this rhythm going then I can contribute a lot to the team. You like to be cheered on, the people here respond and I am grateful for their backing.”

Talking about his good chemistry with Diegui Johannesson, Carlos said that “even though at the beginning there could have been some competition, the formation and the injuries make the Coach look for solutions. Diegui helps me out and runs in behind. We understand each other very well.”

On Sunday, Real Oviedo notched up its fourth win since the beginning of 2019. Regarding this, the defender stated that “we are in a good position right now, particularly in terms of our confidence. We have played really well in some matches, and the feelings are positive. We are getting stronger at home and competing on the road.”

Finally, ahead of this weekend’s match in Elche, Carlos Martínez concluded that “it is not going to be an easy match. Elche will come out swinging and we have to be ready to play our game. The key is to be strong in defence and put away the chances that we have.”
