Real Oviedo fell to their first defeat of preseason this afternoon in Xove. The first half was goalless and saw barely any chances for either side. Anquela opted for a starting eleven which once again featured Javi Hernández in defence and Steven as the main striker. The best chance of the first half saw Javi Muñoz play a fine ball to Yoel Bárcenas, before the winger slid the ball into Steven in the box, but the striker could only fire wide. Alfonso made an intervention on the stroke of halftime to deny the best opportunity of the half for the Galician side. The keeper produced a fine save to keep out a shot which was travelling towards the corner of his net.

Real Oviedo’s attack ensured that the match was played at a different pace in the second half. Real Oviedo were quicker, combined better, and had more attacking threat; clearly dominating a large part of the half. Steven issued a warning with a shot over the top after Viti’s fine right-wing cross. Aarón was next to receive the ball from the Asturian winger, but he struck the post with his effort. Prendes, Borja Sánchez and Sandoval entered the fray, and the Asturians continued to push forward in attack. Aarón brought the ball under control and fired across goal, but the keeper was equal to his effort. However, the Real Oviedo goal arrived shortly afterwards. A fine passage of play saw Borja Sánchez combine with Aarón, who crossed the ball into the box. Johannesson played the ball across to Sandoval, who fired home to open the scoring. Lugo responded by grabbing an equaliser, before converting from a rebound from a corner to make the score 2-1 just before the final whistle.

Real Oviedo will return to training tomorrow (Thursday) at 10:00 at the Carlos Tartiere. They will then proceed to make their traditional offering at Covadonga.
