The penultimate match of the season saw Real Oviedo Vetusta welcome Coruxo FC to El Requexón this afternoon. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning that Emilio Cañedo's side will need to win at Pasarón next time out in order to secure third place in the table.
Emilio Cañedo opted for a starting eleven made up of Kane Sarr, Jorge Mier, Rober, Armenteros, Prada; Alex Cardero, Guille Bernabéu, Meléndez; Sandoval, Eloy Ordóñez and Javi Cueto. Today's fixture was the first of the two crucial remaining games for the team from the capital of Asturias.
The first half saw Los Azules carry the onus in the game, but the Galicians struck first from a defensive mistake. However, Emilio Cañedo's side did not let heads drop and began to dominate possession and create chances. They looked to use their widemen, with the full backs pushing forward and the wingers running at their opponents. Vetusta started to threaten the away side's defence, although the equalising goal eventually came through the middle of the pitch. Some fine link-up play between Alex Cardero and Javi Cueto saw the Asturian forward use fine movement inside the area and beat the keeper. The two teams went in for halftime with the score 1-1.
The match lost its tempo in the second half, with several stoppages. The visitors readjusted and managed to keep the ball for certain periods of the game. Cañedo brought on Alberto Fuentes and Lorea in place of Eloy Ordóñez and the injured Meléndez in order to freshen his side up. Vetusta had several opportunities to score the winning goal, and were denied a clear penalty by the referee. The final stage of the game saw Real Oviedo Vetusta pushing on in attack but unable to find the goal which would have given them all three points.
This draw and results elsewhere mean that Real Oviedo Vetusta will travel to Pasarón next week with all to play for against Pontevedra. Victory in Galicia would allow the B team to seal third place in the table and then wait for results from other groups to find out whether that will be enough for survival.
