The penultimate home fixture of the season saw Real Oviedo come up against Málaga CF this evening at the NMR Carlos Tartiere. The Asturians secured a victory which moved them onto 50 points, thanks to a wonder goal by Lucas in the second half.
The team from the capital of Asturias lined up for tonight's match with a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Juanjo Nieto, Arribas, Grippo, Lucas; Sangalli, Tejera, Jimmy, Borja Sánchez, Nahuel Leiva and Rodri, as they went in search of the victory which would move them onto fifty points.
The first half saw both sides battle for control of the ball, and a chance apiece. The tempo at the start of the match was slow from both Real Oviedo and Málaga, and there were barely any opportunities. It was a very congested first forty-five minutes, with both defences focusing on not giving away chances.
The tempo of the match picked up after the break, with the two teams making more of an attempt to get into the opposition box and break the deadlock. Cuco Ziganda's side threatened more than the visitors, attacking down the wings and making the most of the full backs getting forward and quick ball transitions. The goal eventually came from a fine Lucas strike. Juanjo Nieto swung a ball in from the right, the ball was cleared to the edge of the area, and Lucas fired home into the top corner. Ziganda turned to his bench, first to bring on Bolaño, and then to introduce Obeng and Borja Valle into the fray. The match ended with Real Oviedo solidly defending the lead and making the most of the possibility to run into spaces and threaten a second goal.
These were three crucial points for Real Oviedo, which leave Cuco Ziganda's team on 50 points. Los Azules will travel to Vallecas on Thursday to face Rayo Vallecano.
