Real Oviedo full back Lucas Ahijado appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today.
After yesterday's victory over Málaga, which leaves Los Azules on the verge of mathematically confirming survival, the Oviedo-born defender believes that "we are practically safe now. It helps us and brings calm. We had the experience of last year, and this year we have stayed up with three games to go. It's a big relief."
Regarding his wonder goal yesterday at the NMR Carlos Tartiere, Lucas admitted that "I'm speechless. I can't describe what I'm feeling as an Oviedista to have scored the goal which almost gives us survival, and my first goal as a professional with the first team."
Asked about his positional preferences, the academy product reasoned that "playing at right back or at left back is exactly the same, just on the other side of the pitch. I don't have any problem with playing in either of the two positions. I want to help the team however I can."
With three matches remaining in the regular league season, the Asturian today analysed the team's campaign, saying that "we have had good moments and bad moments, it's gone in patches. We have to learn from this year, grow, and push further up the table in the future."
Discussing a possible contract renewal, the full back commented that "we were just thinking about these matches and about staying up. We will talk about it and reach an agreement soon."
Finally, regarding the possibility of the Coach staying at the club, Lucas highlighted that "I would be delighted if he stayed here after all the confidence he's shown in me. It's the club that will decide, it's in their hands."
