The aim was to keep the season alive, and these three points mean that the team will play another ‘final’ next week in León.

Real Oviedo today beat an already-relegated Sevilla Atlético, who competed as though they were still fighting for survival. The Asturians had enough chances to seal the victory within the first half, however, taking the lead within the first five minutes of the match. Ramon Folch reacted first to a rebound out to the edge of the box and slotted the ball low into the bottom corner of the net. Despite gaining the advantage very early on, the home side continued to threaten Soriano’s net. First an effort from a corner was claimed by the keeper, before Aarón’s shot from another rebound grazed the post. Linares was next to go close, with two separate opportunities. First, the Sevilla B side’s keeper denied him, before he headed over the bar from  the second chance. Aarón tried his luck once more, this time from the right, but Soriano again kept him out, before he made an even better save to tip Rocha’s powerful effort onto the crossbar. The narrow scoreline did not accurately reflect Real Oviedo’s domination heading into the break.

Sevilla Atlético emerged stronger after the break, increasing their possession and attacks in the early stages of the half. Christian Fernández nodded home the second for Los Azules from inside the six-yard box, meeting Saúl’s left-wing cross. With the game seemingly won, an own goal gave Sevilla B new life, and Real Oviedo were forced to suffer until the very end. Johannesson had the clearest chance for the home team on the counter attack, but his shot from the right went over the top.

Finally, Real Oviedo held on for the three points, as they continue to fight for a playoff place.
