Real Oviedo goalkeeper, Alfonso Herrero, appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s training session at El Requexón.

The stopper, who made a vital save to rescue his team yesterday at the Anxo Carro, analysed the win by highlighting that, “we were aware of the match’s importance. The victory is crucial because of how tight it is and also for our confidence, having deserved more from our recent matches. Getting back to winning at a tough ground is something that gives us a lot of motivation going into the coming matches.”

Asked about the change in formation, Alfonso stated that, “the Coach decided that we’d use that system, and I think it worked well for us. We were just as consistent, and strong in defence. The team works hard so that we are capable of different ways of playing and of using different systems, and to create as much danger and concede as few goals as possible.”

With respect to how much a change to a back four affects him, Alfonso commented that, “there are some things that change, but you have to adapt and be able to play in any way. If the Coach thinks it’s for the best, then we will try to do just as well with five or with four defenders.”

Asked about his save, the keeper explained that, “anything that helps the team is always good, and I keep working for that. In that passage of play I was half a metre off my line, because I expected the player’s shot to come in and go by. I was lucky that the ball was a bit behind Fede and I also used a bit of intuition, and I was lucky enough to be able to save it.”

Ahead of two consecutive matches at the Tartiere, Alfonso declared that, “we want to show our fans that together, at the Tartiere, we are very strong. The Alcorcón match was a hammer blow and football as a sport wasn’t fair on us. We hope that now, surrounded by our fans, we can work as well as we always do and get the three points.”

Regarding the next opponent, Nàstic, the keeper warned that, “they are one of the best teams away from home. They are a good team even if the table doesn’t reflect that. We need to prepare as best as we can all week,” he concluded.
