The Real Oviedo goalkeeper, Aarón Escandell, appeared ahead of this Sunday's match against Sevilla FC, analyzing the team's current form and the importance of the clash.
“The team has worked well during the week, with several days to prepare for the match. After the game against Levante UD, where we failed to compete, it was necessary to make adjustments. We've focused on that, and we hope it will be reflected this Sunday.”
Regarding the opponent, the blue goalkeeper stated, “We will face a different Sevilla than in the first round. They will come with clear ideas, keeping it simple and being a solid team. They will try to hurt us from the flanks, with crosses, but we must focus on our game and on changing the image we gave in Levante.”
Escandell also acknowledged the desire to make up for the first-round match at the Sánchez Pizjuán: “We are eager for revenge, especially on an individual level. Conceding four goals is not easy, and I went home feeling down. We know the fans are also looking forward to Sunday to enjoy some joy.”
Regarding the league standings, he was clear: “Here, we all have to believe. If someone doesn't, it's better for them to step aside. We have to keep the faith until the math says otherwise. We have a great opportunity: if we manage to beat Sevilla, we could be five points away, with many games still to play.”
“The team is aware that the bottom of the table is very tight, with very little difference in points. We are focused on winning on Sunday and fighting until the end to stay up,” he added.
On a personal level, the Oviedo goalkeeper assured that he is focused on the present: “I'm not thinking about the future. The only thing on my mind is taking it day by day and continuing to enjoy myself, despite the difficult situation we're in. I have a contract here, I'm happy, and my goal is to save Oviedo; after that, we'll see.”
Finally, Escandell wanted to highlight the role of the fans: “I've always said it. I remember the Movistar event about the promotion, and I got very emotional seeing the people. They are a fundamental part. Oviedo is what it is because of its fans; on many occasions, we've achieved more thanks to them. We need that extra push to keep rowing in the same direction, even though the outcome will be what it has to be,” he concluded.
