Real Oviedo coach, Cuco Ziganda, appeared before the media this morning in the Press Room.
The full squad is available apart from one absence, with the Gaffer explaining “we have everyone except Lucas.” The Coach acknowledged that the week “is atypical because we are playing on a Monday. We are all living it intensely and following everything. It is a longer wait than usual, but we have more time to train and recover, and we adapt to it. What is strange is playing on a Monday. I'd like to think that knowing the results of the other matches shouldn’t affect us.”
The bulk of the weekend's matches will be played today and tomorrow, and results this weekend have already guaranteed Monday's opponents safety from relegation. “Real Zaragoza is a team that is going to show up and competes. They have many options and is difficult to guess which players we will face. They have had difficulty scoring, but it is a very well-organised team. They have known how to handle the difficult moments that they have had, and they will want to put in a good performance now that they are safe.”
When asked what he will do today and tomorrow afternoon, the Real Oviedo coach stated that “I don’t usually follow the weekend's other matches directly. If I am at home I can watch TV, but I prefer to watch or do other things.”
When asked about the statistic that shows that his team is the one that faces the lowest number of shots on goal in the division, Ziganda said “yes, we have been achieving automatisms and adjusting. Perfecting what we have been achieving. We have good defensive and offensive numbers. The defence has an order, and it takes a lot of sacrifice and commitment… from the whole team."
Finally, when asked if he thinks Real Zaragoza's survival is a double-edged sword, Ziganda said that “for them, it’s a relief to come here already safe, it’s much better for them. However, just because they come to play more calmly doesn’t mean they won't come and give 100%. For example, when we went to Vallecas last year we caused them problems. Elche beat us in 80th minute (in 2019-2020) and we made them work hard for it. They are going to compete; they will give us scares. I imagine it will be even. We have to feel the strength of playing at the Tartiere and demonstrate it.”
