Real Oviedo goalkeeper Joan Femenías appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today, ahead of a new week of training for the first team.
Following yesterdays encounter with Real Zaragoza, the shot stopper admitted that "it was an entertaining match for the neutral and a nervy one for Oviedistas. The team showed character and maturity and got an important point. We are going into the week with our minds on Saturday. We all know what is at stake." In addition, regarding the team's performance yesterday, Femenías reasoned that "we started well and had chances. They scored and then it seemed like we felt sorry for ourselves and let them get another. At halftime we discussed the fact that we had to give 100%. The fans showed their support. It was amazing, a special atmosphere. We want to thank them. We had a lot of chances to win in the second half."
Asked about the final passage of play of the match, in which he made a fine stop to save a point, the goalkeeper admitted that "we were switched on and completely focused on the game. I saw them coming through one-on-one and I felt in command. We got an important point for the run-in." Furthermore, Femenías believes that "it's a key moment, but the team is defined by the way we have stepped up. Our morale is what's allowing us to be up there. We have put the club, the fans, and everyone who works here, in the position they deserve to be in. We are fighting to return to the First Division and it's time to go for it. We have full energy and belief. We have to focus on the team's character. There was an incredible aura yesterday and it was a reflection of what Oviedismo is. I am sure that we are going to achieve great things. This team gives everything for the badge that it represents and that's where success comes from."
Finally, ahead of Saturday's fixture in Las Palmas, Femenías highlighted that "it's a 'cup final'. We are fighting to return Real Oviedo to the First Division. We have to take responsibility, work hard, and give it everything. We are united and close to achieving the objective, but in order to do that we have to win in Las Palmas."
