Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today, ahead of Saturday's fixture against Fuenlabrada.
With the team fully immersed in preparations for the encounter, the Coach analysed the state of his team. "It's been a normal week, in which we have had time to work. We have the full squad available except for Carlos Isaac, Hugo Rama, and Jirka, the latter because he has been called up for his national team."
Ahead of the Fuenlabrada match this weekend, Ziganda highlighted that "they are a team in need of points and getting towards an urgent situation. They are fighting for every ball, every minute as if it were the last. We know what that type of situation is like, we've experienced it. We have to prepare for any scenario and win."
Asked about the importance of getting as many victories as possible during this final stage of the season, in order to try to reach the playoff places, the Coach stated that "we need to grab onto the feeling that we have a real opportunity to be up there. We are fortunate to be here and we have so many positives to grab on to. Obviously when you don't win the energy is not the same, but you have to know how to handle it. The squad is proving that it is still alive and doesn't give up. We can play better or worse on the day, but the team keeps going. I have no complaints about the team's attitude." In addition, he reasoned that "everything changes each week in terms of both the feeling and the league standings. The final step is the hardest one and we have to be prepared to make the most of it if we get the chance. We have to put in a great end to the season and take another step."
Finally, regarding the upcoming fixture against Fuenlabrada, where Sandoval arrived as Head Coach a few weeks ago, Ziganda stated that "Fuenlabrada's matches have been similar all season. They are very tight and they penalise any mistakes you make. Sandoval knows how to get the best out of his players. They have matchwinners and the other day they made the most of their opportunity to win. I expect to face an aggressive 'Fuenla', who will put us under a lot of pressure. We have to try to put in a great performance. It's the club's anniversary and we have to try to get the fans smiling."
