Real Oviedo turned 96 today and enjoyed a long day of celebrations. The team emerged for the match as night fell at the Tartiere, going back to a 4-4-2 and with Obeng coming into the eleven. Fuenlabrada arrived in Asturias in need of wins. The two sides went out onto the pitch in front of a beautiful tifo, which showed some of the different versions of the badge through the years and its importance.
The match began with Fuenlabrada pressing and Real Oviedo dominating possession, but with Ziganda's side struggling to break through. Obeng was unable to convert from inside the area after a fine passage of play. Borja Sánchez found Bastón, whose first-time pass found Obeng, but the striker couldn't convert. The next chance once again featured the two Borjas heavily. A cross into the box from Sánchez saw Bastón head over the bar. Los Azules stepped up their attacks in the final stages of the first half, finally making the breakthrough. Dani Calvo scored a wonderful header from a corner, making the score 1-0 just before the interval.
Things continued in a similar manner after halftime, but luck favoured the Asturians more than it had previously. Obeng doubled the lead when he met a ball which came into the box from the left, making the score 2-0. Javi Mier and Joni Montiel came on to freshen up the midfield and stand up to a Fuenla side that was launching more attacks. A fine recovery of the ball and quick play led to Javi Mier adding a third. There could have been more goals, but none of the Real Oviedo chances went in. Mossa and Matheus Aiás came on in the final changes.
Today saw a good birthday present for all those Oviedistas who made it possible for us to enjoy our 96th birthday.
