Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón ahead of the game against Logroñés, which will be the first match of the second half of the season for Los Azules.
The Gaffer began by discussing Edgar's return to the team, saying that "he needs more training sessions, but him being able to travel with us and being available is another matter. He had the virus for three weeks and it will be hard for him to get back up to speed. He's young though and we think he will recover quickly." In addition, regarding the fact that players like Tejera, Borja Valle and Borja Sánchez are now back, the Coach explained that "they are all in similar situations. They have advanced in their preparations and might be ready to play. Not for the full 90, but they will be ready to play a part. Borja Valle is doing better. He could start or come on at the end, he is training well. He came here having not played football nor trained, but he is now progressing in terms of getting up to speed."
With respect to this short break, which has served to make progress with preparations for the second half of the season, Ziganda declared that "in general teams we have had time. We have had good training sessions, and we have focused on aspects we needed to work on, both in attack and in defence. We have to improve and make certain movements automatic in order to show our ideas as a team. We haven't particularly focused on set pieces. You can work on dead balls, but it's difficult to replicate the aggression and concentration of a match situation. Here you can hold on and push, and it's not the same. We have to improve and all be at our best."
Asked by recent comments made by the players to the media, in which they all stressed the idea of being ambitious and looking upwards, the Coach highlighted that "I like listening to them and hearing them being ambitious. We are on the path to becoming a good team, although right now our results aren't excellent. We have to deserve and get wins. We can talk a lot, but we have to see the ambition and the results out on the pitch. I prefer to be realistic and objective. We will see what we are fighting for in a couple of months. On Sunday we have to show that we want to win."
Regarding his potential contract renewal, Ziganda commented that "we have to get the second half of the season going and see how the team is doing. We have to turn the screw on what we are doing and then we will talk. The club has to take the first and most important step, and then we will see."
Finally, ahead of a loan move for Riki, the Coach believes that "it's a real possibility, but it hasn't been officially confirmed. He hasn't played for a while. He has options and it's normal that he wants to go out and get minutes. It could be beneficial, because we have a lot of competition."
