Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared before the media this morning, ahead of the weekend's fixture against Alcorcón. Asked firstly how he feels about the cup exit, the Gaffer stated that "we are analysing the situation now it's over and thinking about Sunday's match, because that is what's coming up. It was a very big setback for all of us and a huge disappointment, but all we can do now is to put all of our energy into the Alcorcón match. We need to come together, analyse everything well, improve, and do things better. We have the means. We have a very good, healthy group. We got it badly wrong in the Cup, but I still believe in these players and in the squad."
Regarding Yayo's debut, the Coach is optimistic, saying that "I like him, that's why I picked him. I have a lot of belief in our academy, and in our homegrown players, but if I don't think they're up to it then I don't pick them. He has to learn and keep a cool head. He needs the people around him to look out for him and continue to develop individually, because it will help him a lot on the pitch. In terms of footballing quality he has a great future, just like several others his age. It looks like he will go on to play a lot of games at the Tartiere."
On a morale level, Ziganda stressed that "it was a big blow and it still hurts, but our obligation as professionals is to turn it around and prove on Sunday that we are a serious and competent team, that is worth its place in the division and has ambitions. This team can do anything and we are up for fighting for it. Whether playing well, badly, or ok, the team has never given up. There is no excuse for the Cup match. Even though we can't remedy the setback overnight, we can believe in this group. If there's one thing we have then it's character. We fight in every match just how you have to in this division. The coach bears the greatest responsibility, since it is he who prepares the match and chooses the players. The defeat hurts everybody. It hurts the club because of the image it gives, but also the players, because it hurts them personally. We have all come out of it losing. I am sorry but not disappointed with them. We all lost out, me first of all."
With respect to the next opponent, Alcorcón, the Coach reasoned that "it's a team that isn't doing well in the table, but which has proven players with great experience in the division. Perhaps they've not been consistent in terms of results, and they have changed their coach. They are finding it tough to find a consistent path. However, this coach, Fran, knows the division very well, has experience, and equips his teams well. They have had close matches, and had clear opportunities to pick up points in Eibar and in Tenerife. They are involved in all of their matches. I imagine it will be an even match, with little between the two teams. We have to focus on what we can do in order to improve. It's another competition and we have to be objective and ambitious. We mustn't give up on anything."
