Fede Viñas appeared before the media after Real Oviedo's defeat against FC Barcelona and made it clear that, despite the result, the team is not giving up and is already focusing all its attention on the decisive match this Saturday against Girona.
The forward acknowledged that the analysis of the last match cannot be satisfactory as they failed to score points. “It’s a very tough opponent, but we are left with a bitter feeling because we competed well in the first half and then mistakes penalized us too much,” he explained. Even so, the Uruguayan insisted on the need to maintain mental strength: “We have to lift our heads and keep moving forward.”
With survival becoming increasingly demanding, Viñas emphasized the importance of the next match, which he described as key to the course of the season. “Time is running out, and we need victories. Right now, we are only thinking about Girona. For us, it’s a final, as the coach also conveyed to us,” he stated, highlighting the difficulty of managing an adverse position in the standings. “We are nine points behind, but as long as mathematics don’t say otherwise, we will keep trying. We need to break that psychological barrier and achieve the victory we are so desperately seeking. If it comes, I believe the team can grow.”
The striker also analyzed the Catalan team, recalling that not long ago they were in a similar situation. “Girona knew how to react by stringing together victories, and now they are in a good position. With the reinforcements they’ve made, they are a competitive team that plays well, and they will make it very difficult for us. We have to make ourselves respected at home,” he noted.
Finally, Viñas was honest about the need to secure three points as soon as possible. “We’ve gone a long time without winning, and we can’t let more opportunities slip away. It’s not just for the fans or the club, but also for ourselves. The locker room is united and in good spirits, but in football, results are what matter, and we need that victory.”
