Santianes today hosted Real Oviedo Vetusta's final match in 2021, with Jaime Álvarez's side triumphing 2-1 away against CD Colunga. The team got back to winning ways today and ended the year top of Group II of the 3ª RFEF Division.
The coach opted for a starting eleven made up of Berto Hórreo; Marc Alegre, René Pérez, Lucas Laso, Osky; Joselu, Alex Cardero, Mangel; Eloy Ordóñez, Chus and Javi Cueto. The match was a hard-fought, competitive encounter.
The team from the capital of Asturians got off to a flying start when they were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes. Javi Cueto converted from the spot to make the score 1-0. The hosts improved after falling behind and did not allow Los Azules to play their normal game. Almost half an hour into the match Colunga levelled the scores from a spot kick of their own. Halftime arrived without further clear chances.
Vetusta emerged strongly once again for the second half. Some fine combination play between the midfielders saw Alex Cardero and Javi Cueto link up to add the second for Jaime Álvarez's side. Alex Cardero was the one to turn the ball home and put the B team back into the lead. Los Azules stood up to pressure from their opponents, and were well-organised defensively while trying to extend the advantage on the counter attack. Pedregal, Isaac, Pablo, Nnoshiri and Merayo would all feature as substitutes.
Following this match, Real Oviedo Vetusta have now begun their winter break. The team will return to training on Monday 27th December, when preparations will begin for the first match of the second half of the season. The first fixture of 2022 will see Vetusta visit TSK Roces.
