Real Oviedo demonstrated their defensive solidity against a strong opponent in their penultimate preseason workout. They battled for possession of the ball, and managed to triumph from the spot, in a match where all the goals were penalties.
Anquela selected youth team players in the starting eleven once more. Play was even during the opening stages of the game, and the early chances came from set pieces. A foul on Yoel Bárcenas came to nothing, before a fine run and cross from Carlos Martínez down the wing was cleared for a corner. Real Oviedo were solid and organised in defence and didn’t allow their opponents to create any clear opportunities ahead of halftime.
An unchanged Real Oviedo increased their domination of the match at the nstart of the second half and Anquela’s side managed to open the scoring. Toché converted from the spot after a handball from the home team. Alfonso then made a couple of good saves from clear efforts. After six changes, a passage of play in the Carbayón box ended with Tejera conceding a penalty. Camacho slotted home the equaliser to make the score 1-1. Finally, and after several attacks from the Asturians, they were able to notch the winning goal. Ibra stepped up to score the winner on his debut, again from the penalty spot. Borja Sánchez had the final chance, meeting a rebound from a corner at the edge of the box, but he was denied by Werner.
Real Oviedo will now return home after their penultimate workout of this preseason. The next training session is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at El Requexón, and the final friendly takes place on Saturday at 19:00 in Foz, against RC Deportivo.
