Real Oviedo striker, José Verdú Nicolás, “Toché”, today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón.

Toché began by analysing last weekend’s match at Riazor, and highlighted that, “we have to move on quickly, analyse what happened and try to learn from the errors. The result was what it was, but I don’t think we were as bad as it seems. It’s time to move on and focus on what’s coming up.”

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Sporting de Gijón, the captain commented that, “it’s a special week for everyone. We are aware of how important it is for the fans and for ourselves, since we aren’t going into it in the best form. It’s the perfect moment to change our form though. We want it to be Saturday now and to be able to enjoy winning.”

Regarding the opponent, Sporting de Gijón, the attacker highlighted that, “they’re a team like any other in this division. Last year they had a better squad, but they are still a difficult opponent. It’s a derby and it has special, sentimental connotations. It will be a different kind of match.”

Asked about the pressure which surrounds a fixture like Saturday’s, Toché believes that, “a scared player is the worst type possible. It’s a game you should enjoy. It should fill us with confidence and let us know that we have a good team. I think that we have a good squad, with room to improve. I hope we can turn our form around in the derby.” In addition, with respect to his responsibilities as captain with the players who are new this season, the forward said that, “this week they are seeing what the derby means to our fans. The fans want the win and for us to give it everything. We are going to give it everything, like we do in every game. The fans deserve some happiness and we want them to get it from this match.”

Finally, with respect to his feelings on a physical level, the captain commented that, “I’m getting my fitness back little by little. The Coach is the one who decides, but I want to play,” he concluded.
