Real Oviedo winger, Saúl Berjón, today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón.

Following the latest training session for ‘Los Azules’, and asked for an injury update, the Asturian explained that, “I’m going through a recovery process and meeting targets little by little. I’d have liked to have been back playing on the first day, but the doctors say that it has to be like this, and all I can do is follow their orders. I’m going to do everything possible to be available, as I do every week. Maybe this game’s more special for me since I’m from here, but it’s a long season and we have to try to win every match.” In addition, regarding his feelings concerning the injury, Saúl highlighted that, “I’m fine, but doctors are evaluating me every day. I feel good, but they’ll decide. I’m in the middle of the process and it’s too early to say.”

With respect to the week leading up to the derby, the attacker commented that, “I don’t have any social networks, but just seeing people on the street is enough to motivate me. Everyone involved at the club is motivated and knows that this game is special. I make everyone know that, with messages of support. As the game gets closer, the desire to play grows stronger. We have to be calm and have confidence going into the match.”

Asked about the form of the two sides, the captain reasoned that, “we’re in strange form this year and we hope that this will be a turning point for us. The team is playing well but not getting the results to go with it. The fans, players, and Real Oviedo itself deserve a victory.” In addition, he believes that, “we are going to win and it will help us change the mood. We are playing well but missing chances. We have to change our form and push upwards; that’s the way forward.”

With respect to how he sees the Coach ahead of next Saturday’s match at the Carlos Tartiere, Saúl said that, “he wants to work and is backing us. We are working like we have been up until now and aware that we need to produce the best performance possible.” In addition, regarding criticism towards the team, the Asturian argued that, “it's unfair right from the outset. Saying things before they happen isn’t good. People should wait until the end to say things and weigh up the season. I trust this squad and I wouldn’t swap any player.”

Speaking about the defensive issues from set plays, the winger stated that, “there are times you score almost without wanting to, like we did last year. Right now, the opposite is happening to us, but we are sure we can improve it. Keeping clean sheets is very important.”

Asked how special the match is for him personally, the Oviedo-born player highlighted that, “playing in these matches is special and nice. Seeing the atmosphere motivates you and prepares you. This week is going by in the best way possible. People make you see that it’s a nice challenge. We are only thinking about beating Sporting, which I believe we deserve to do. A goal in the derby would be the most special one of my career. If I scored, I’d dedicate it to Michu. I’d do his celebration and look for him in the crowd.”

Finally, regarding the opponent’s squad and Carmona’s words following the Málaga match, Saúl commented that, “I have friends there, but I can assure you that I don’t know their squad. I think that we have to think about ourselves. What they do doesn’t matter; I only think about us,” he concluded.
