Juan Antonio Anquela had called for fight until the last minute, and it was not until the final moments of regulation time that Christian Fernández scored the goal which gave ‘Los Azules’ victory over Numancia

Real Oviedo opted for the same starting eleven which began the final match prior to the Winter Break, with three centre back and wing backs, and they quickly found themselves in front. Javi Hernández went on a fine individual run and finished well to open the scoring within the first five minutes. Numancia found it hard to withstand the intense pressure from the Asturians during the opening stages. However, a few minutes later they had a shot which forced Champagne into a fine save, tipping the effort out for a corner. Real Oviedo struggled to create much more in attack. There were a few minutes where the game opened up, with the two teams taking it in turns to counter. Champagne again intervened, before Javi Hernández’s timid shot went wide.

An early goal by the hosts after the break levelled the scores and was a setback for Anquela’s side. However, Carlos Hernández responded just two minutes later with an emphatic header from Tejera’s corner to put Real Oviedo back in front. Just a couple more minutes passed though, before Numancia equalised once more. Diamanka struck with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, and the two teams were back at square one. Joselu came on to add more firepower. Real Oviedo began to win balls back in the opposing half, but they couldn’t find the finishing touch. Johannesson had a go under a lot of pressure but was denied by Juan Carlos, before Joselu went through one-on-one, and also fired straight at the home keeper. Omar Ramos and Mossa came on to freshen up the team in the final stages, and then the goal finally arrived. Tejera’s corner was flicked on by Mossa at the front post and Christian Fernández headed home at the back post. The ‘Oviedistas’ went crazy, as Anquela’s side got their first three points and away win for several matches.
