Jaime Álvarez had told his players this week that getting a win at La Veigona was not going to be an easy task, and the team was indeed forced to work hard today to overcome Luarca.
Los Azules went into the game with a starting eleven of Marco; Javi Moreno, René, Merayo, Osky; Isaac, Alex Cardero, Chus, Mangel; Eloy and Javi Cueto. Today's encounter was a very tight, physical affair initially, which gradually went in favour of the B team.
The first half was end-to-end, with Real Oviedo Vetusta forced to work hard to break through the home team's defensive line. Jaime Álvarez's team did however take the lead in the twelfth minute, with Chus converting after a fine piece of play by Eloy. The next passage of play saw Luarca capitalise on a mistake at full back to level the scoring. The goal sparked Vetusta into life, as they looked to get the widemen in behind to threaten the hosts. The B team controlled the play and had the better of the chances, but also had to defend very well, dealing with the few opportunities created by the home team. The two teams went in for the interval with the score 1-1.
The encounter continued in a similar vein to that of the first half after halftime. The B team looked to break through the tightly-packed Luarca defence, while the hosts threatened Marco on a few occasions. Vetusta gradually got forward with ever increasing intensity, but were unable to convert the first chances they had. René had one chance from a corner kick, before Jaime Álvarez brought on Viti and Yayo. The second goal for Los Azules came from a Chus overhead kick, as he turned the ball into the back of the net following a clearance. The goal made Luarca chase the game, increasing their intensity as they went looking for an equaliser. In the process they left gaps in defence, and the Carbayón B team had chances to extend the lead. The match ended with the hosts launching balls into the area in the hope of finding a leveller.
Los Azules won 2-1 today in a difficult away match at La Veigona, and in doing so strengthened their lead at the top of the table. The side will now begin preparations for next Saturday's match against San Martín.
