Today saw the second workout of preseason for Cuco Ziganda's side, with many Oviedistas in attendance to see their side play at the Suárez Puerta. Los Carbayones lined up for the match against Real Avilés in the 'sacavera' black and yellow kit.
The starting eleven for the match was made up of Femenías; Lucas, Lucas Laso, Arribas, Christian; Javi Mier, Jimmy, Joselu; Osky, Jirka and Javi Cueto. Real Oviedo had chances, but lacked the finishing touch. The first opportunity fell to Jirka, who went on two runs before firing over the bar. A corner swung into the box by Jimmy was then kept out on the line after three separate attempts, the last of which came from Christian Fernández. Christian also had the next chance, with his shot on the run being saved by the keeper once more.
The second half saw Ziganda opt for a line-up made up of Femenías; Jorge Mier, Grippo, Costas, Mossa; Viti, Sangalli, Yayo, Borja Sánchez, Alex Cardero and Obeng. The latter would provide the only goal, after Real Oviedo had gone close on a couple of occasions. Alex Cardero fired across goal, before Obeng headed wide. Mossa then started a move on the left wing, which would see Borja denied, before Obeng made the score 1-0 from the rebound. Los Azules continued to dominate the match. Berto Hórreo came on in goal, but was not tested for the remainder of the encounter.
Today saw the second victory of Los Azules' preseason schedule. The team will rest tomorrow, before returning to training with a double session on Monday at El Requexón.
