A home victory was back at Carlos Tartiere, as the best 90th anniversary present. Real Oviedo was celebrating its ninetieth birthday in a festive day that ended on a high note with one of the most overwhelming victories of the season

The Blues started the game intensely, as the heavy rain of the day gave a truce, wearing the 90th anniversary special kit amid a wonderful atmosphere.

Toché got near the SD Ponferradina goal twice before scoring his first goal before the 15th minute. After a beautifully combined action inside the penalty box, the Blues striker's right-footed shot gave Real Oviedo the lead. A few minutes later, Borja Valle tried his luck but his attempt went wide and a long shot from Susaeta went off the bar. Another Real Oviedo goal seemed to be in the making and that was what happened when David Fernández netted in a header to a corner kick from Susaeta from the penalty spot, giving the Blues a two-goal advantage.

In the second half, Real Oviedo continued keeping an almost absolute control of the ball. There was no need for Miño to take action while at the other end Koné made a couple of attempts from inside the penalty box that went narrowly wide. Toché and Susaeta shots made it clear that Real Oviedo were set to score again and that was what going to happen. Real Oviedo top-scorer headed in an assist by Susaeta from the right wing. There was yet another chance for los Carbayones as Erice's volley went off the bar. SD Ponferradina ended the game without having had any clear chances on Real Oviedo's goal and with one man down as Berrocal got a straight red.

A great victory on a historic day for Real Oviedo as Arturo Elías Ayub and his family watched after taking active part in all the 90th anniversary events.
