No Easter break for the Academy

Victory for the Juvenil A side against Deportivo in the División de Honor was the highlight of the Easter period, as well as the presence of six of our teams in the latter stages of the Oviedo Cup.

The victory of the Juvenil A youth team against Deportivo La Coruña and the participation of several youth teams in the Oviedo Cup marked a new weekend for Real Oviedo’s youth teams.

After five games without a defeat, Real Oviedo Vetusta finally fell on Sunday afternoon against Marino de Luanco in Miramar. A goal right at the beginning of the match set the tone for the match, with victory confirmed for the home side when they scored another goal just after the start of the second half. Despite the defeat, the club’s B team lie eighth in the table, three points off the play-off positions. Next matchday will see Vetusta at home against Astur.

On Thursday afternoon, Real Oviedo Juvenil A faced Deportivo La Coruña in a key match in the title race, at El Requexón training ground. The Blues won 2-1, with goals by Steven and Javi Mier. Following this result, Real Oviedo are top of their group and two points clear of their nearest challenger, Racing Santander. The club’s top youth team will visit Roces next matchday.

The last few days have seen this year’s edition of the Oviedo Cup, an annual tournament which is held to celebrate Easter, and which national and international teams take part in. Many of the club’s youth sides participated in the tournament, and Real Oviedo were the club with most teams in the semi-finals (6 across the different age groups).

The Benjamín A youth team were crowned champions of their category, triumphing 1-0 against Astur, with a goal from Marú. The same player was also awarded a prize as Player of the Tournament for the Benjamín category.

Meanwhile, the Alevín A side won 2-0 against Racing Santander, with goals from Charbel and Nacho, to also become champions of their category.

Next matchday will see Real Oviedo’s youth team return to normal league action.
