Matchday 4 in LaLiga SmartBank took Real Oviedo away from home to face SD Huesca at El Alcoraz. The side from Asturias secured a 2-1 away victory, in what was the first win of the season for Cuco Ziganda's men.
Los Azules changed their system and made several alterations to the starting eleven, opting for a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Lucas, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Pierre Cornud; Sangalli, Luismi, Jimmy, Viti; Borja Bastón and Obeng. The side began the game in a very intense fashion, playing the match at a high tempo. The game was evenly contested during the first half and Real Oviedo put in a good performance in the early stages, trying to press high and force the home defence into mistakes on the ball. Quick transitions in play and balls into the forwards saw the Asturians begin to create chances. A fine cross into the box from Jimmy saw Borja Bastón head home the opening goal of the encounter. Ziganda's team continued to play at a good tempo after the opener, with the front men very heavily involved. The final minutes of the first half saw Huesca enjoy a few threatening moments, with Femenías forced into some good saves but the Carbayón defence doing well. The teams went in for halftime with Real Oviedo 1-0 up.
Real Oviedo started strongly once more after the interval, with a Borja Bastón strike disallowed for offside after a VAR check. Ziganda's side put together a strong spell and had the better of the chances, before Huesca then grabbed an equaliser. However, Real Oviedo did not lose faith and kept going in search of the victory. Ziganda brought on Javi Mier and Borja Sánchez, before later giving Gastón Brugman his debut. Obeng then made the most of his pace to get in behind the Huesca defence and score the winning goal during the closing stages of the match. Matheus Aiás and Arribas came on in the final changes for Los Azules.
Los Azules got their first victory of the season today, away from home against one of the favourites for promotion from the division. The win allows Ziganda's side to gain renewed energy as preparations begin for Sunday's game against Cartagena.
