Saúl Berjón was today presented with the award for August’s ‘Jugador Cinco Estrellas’ player of the month in the Press Room at El Requexón. Real Oviedo’s attacking player has been one of the outstanding players at the
beginning of this season, scoring twice and featuring as a key member of Los Azules’ attack. Saúl Berjón was voted as the winner by Real Oviedo fans, who chose between the five players nominated by the beer company on their Twitter profile, @futbolmahou. Marcos Lobato Díaz, from Casa Lobato, presented the award on behalf of Mahou.
Following the presentation of the award, Saúl Berjón declared himself “very happy”, saying that “I would prefer to have more points, but we have those that we have on the board. The team is turning up for every game, and I hope that continues.”
This Sunday, Real Oviedo will face Cádiz, the current leaders of the Liga 1|2|3, who have begun the competition in fine form. Asked about the clash, the attacker pointed out that “once again we face the leader this week. We’ll hope to be strong and ensure that the points stay here. We are a team that is doing things well, and we must try to continue on our path to pick up the victory.”
Asked about this morning’s training session, in which Juan Antonio Anquela focused on attacking aspects of the game, Saúl Berjón argued that “this division is like that. Regarding last weekend’s match at El Molinón and the team’s shape following the clash against Sporting, the Oviedo-born player said that, “we would have preferred to win, but getting a draw like that is important. The team didn’t surrender; we gave everything and had chances to win.”
When asked about the atmosphere in recent weeks in Oviedo, Saúl Berjón stated that “there’s a great relationship. The fans support and motivate us. This has been the best period since I’ve been here, everyone is hooked. We hope that it can last and we can stick together all season.”
Finally, with respect to what it meant to face Sporting on a personal level, the attacker believes that “it is different. I’d faced Sporting with other teams and it wasn’t the same. The will to win was ten times greater on Saturday,” he concluded.
