Anquela: “The way to win is by being ourselves”

The Real Oviedo Head Coach, who has not seen any players come back from injury this week, warns that Cádiz “are dangerous, know their way of playing, and they do it very well”

Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the penultimate training session of the week.

Regarding the players available for Sunday’s match and how injuries have disrupted the team’s plans for the encounter, the Coach stated that, “it’s quite simple. We don’t have anybody new back. They’ve all worked well all week, but they won’t be ready for the weekend.”

Asked about how the mood generated following the match against Sporting could affect the team going into the Cádiz game, Juan Antonio Anquela assured that “every game is a different story. The team was good at El Molinón. We competed well, and that’s what we must do all season. We know that we can compete like that in every match.”

When questioned about this Sunday’s opponent and the match at the Carlos Tartiere, the Real Oviedo Coach declared that, “we must respect Cádiz, just as we do every team in this division. This league is very even and everyone competes well. Cádiz are top, the best so far. Last season they had a great season, and they do the things they do very well. They are dangerous and know what they are playing for. They’ve changed some players, but their philosophy has remained the same. Cádiz were up there last year and almost went up to the First Division, and they would have deserved it.”

With regard to Barral’s fine form as one of Cádiz’s key attacking players, Juan Antonio Anquela said that, “he has always scored goals. As long as I’ve known about him, he’s always been scoring goals. You don’t forget
about good players.”

Regarding what Real Oviedo have to do to pick up a positive result at the Carlos Tartiere on Sunday, the Coach highlighted that “we must stay calm. We have a good squad, and I am convinced that we are going to do well. The lads know what we want, and we will be capable of competing and playing good football. Real Oviedo must be Real Oviedo; competitive and patient. We must play for the full 90 minutes, doing the things we know how to do. Our hard work must be backed up by the points tally.”

Talking about the good feeling in the city surrounding the team and the positive atmosphere being created in each match, Juan Antonio Anquela reiterated that, “I thought that I’d seen everything in football, but here I’m seeing new, positive things. These things I’m seeing give me more responsibility. We must be at the same level as our fans, and that is a high level. I don’t look for cheap applause, I tend to blush amidst compliments, but I’d never seen what I’ve been seeing here. I’ve been at many clubs but I’ve never seen what the fans here feel for their team. I’m not trying to win the fans over; I say it because I feel it and I have to say it.”

Finally, when asked about the importance he gives to the table following the first few matches, the Head Coach said that, “you have to look at it, but right now nobody is going up or down. The final outcome will be seen in June, and we must reach that point still alive. If we can get there sooner with a good outcome then that’s great for everyone. It’s not going to be easy since the Second Division is a very even league,” concluded Anquela.
