Real Oviedo winger Marco Sangalli appeared before the Press this morning. The fixture against RCD Espanyol is now just around the corner, and will be played this Friday in Barcelona.
The Basque winger reasoned that in order to get something positive from this away game, the team "has to play as it has in the last three matches, where the team put in good performances. We need to show as much of an identity as possible against one of the best teams in the division. It's an opportunity for us to keep growing." The fixture list will see Los Azules play against three teams at the top of the table in the next three matches.
Sangalli was clear that "in a year like this one, without fans, the squads that come down from the First Division have greater strength in depth. They are good teams, but we are doing well. As we as doing well ourselves, I think that they also have to be worried about facing us."
Regarding the calmness which the victory against Zaragoza has provided, Sangalli said that "any victory does that. But then again the team was even better against Fuenlabrada, for example, and had a good chance to win. The team deserved to win against Zaragoza."
Asked about his lob which struck the crossbar in the final minutes of the match, which would have made the score 2-0, Sangalli explained that "those are things you practise too. I've always had that banter with Joan (Femenías). He gets angry when I chip him and always tells me to do it in matches! It almost came off the other day, and I was annoyed. I would have liked it to have gone in so that I could wind Riki up a bit. He scored one (for Racing de Santander) the day before. I'd have liked to have celebrated it with Joan Femenías too, because he's always telling me off for them in training!"
Sangalli is the team's top scorer with five goals, but he reasoned that the most important statistic is that the team "is in the top ten in the league in terms of goals scored. We scored two the other day against Fuenlabrada and could have scored more. The important thing is that we create chances. If more players can score, then more of us will boost our morale and it's better for us. I'd be delighted for Rodri, Gustavo, or whoever else if they
finished top scorer, though. The most important thing is that we score goals to help the team, and manage to turn the goals into points."
