Real Oviedo Vetusta were back in action today after two consecutive victories and last weekend's break. The B team travelled to Los Pajaritos for the postponed Matchday 14 fixture, which had been rearranged following Covid cases in the Numancia squad. Los Azules fell to a heavy defeat.
Emilio Cañedo opted for a starting eleven made up of B.Hórreo; Amez, Pedro Inglés, Ando, Armenteros, Jorge Mier; Rober, Meléndez, Guille Bernabéu; Erik Aguado and Javi Cueto. The B team had the better attacks in the opening stages, but did not threaten the home side too much. Numancia slowly took control of the game and the opportunities. They had half a dozen chances from set pieces, with Alberto Hórreo making one fine save, the hosts striking the post, and then eventually heading home the opener. Cañedo's side had stood up well to the threat prior to the setback. Moha scored the first goal, and just two minutes later Menudo made the score 2-0. There was to be one further twist before the interval, with Javi Cueto clearly being brought down in the box. The forward picked himself back up and converted from the spot, meaning that the two teams went in for halftime with the score 2-1.
The second half began with Alberto Fuentes coming on in place of David Amez, and the substitute would create two chances, including one fine left-footed strike that went just wide. Jorge Mier cleared the danger after a shot had hit the post, but the third goal for the home side would arrive shortly afterwards, with Gabarri the scorer. Joselu and Steven then came on. Cueto tried his luck from a free kick, but was denied by the keeper. Asier Benito added the final goal, giving Numancia a 4-1 win.
The B team fell to defeat today at Los Pajaritos. The next match will see them face Sporting B at El Requexón on Sunday.
