Rebuilding with Real Oviedo

Work, home, and a new life away from war thanks to the efforts of the Real Oviedo Foundation

Following the terrible Russian invasion of Ukraine, a wave of solidarity spread around virtually all corners of the planet. Real Oviedo faced the issue head on and got to work to play a small part in helping to ease the lives of some Ukrainians who had to flee from their own nation.

Through the work of the Foundation, as well as several institutions, organisations, and individuals such as our former goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, three families, such as that of Viacheslav Struherian were able to leave the nightmare behind and build a new home in Oviedo.

Seven months after the start of the conflict, and thanks to Real Oviedo's community work, Viacheslac has not only been able to leave Kharkiv, but today he works as part of the maintenance staff at Real Oviedo's Fundoma facilities.

In addition, 'Slava', as he is known by his friends, attends Spanish classes with his wife Valentina and daughter Aurika (16). The classes are provided by the relentless work of the Foundation. The family live together in Oviedo with Slava and Valentina's other two children, Alina (6) and Dima (13). Dima plays football with Real Oviedo's Soccer School.

The tragedy continues far from Asturias. Many families will not find comfort due to the actions of a few. However, at least football and Real Oviedo have served to ease things somewhat for a man who has found a ball of oxygen.
