Rafa’s Great Lesson

The little one, who is suffering from leukaemia and is waiting for a compatible donor, teaches us how easy and important it is to become a marrow donor

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!

Rafa does not stop smiling, not even for a moment. Except when the sun gets in his eyes while taking the photo. Upon walking through the door at El Requexón, he gives you his hand and takes the tour with you, excited and happy, of the dressing room, the coach’s office and the boot room. He asks who scores the goals, since he likes strikers. He receives two footballs from our captains. One, with all of their signatures, is of great sentimental value. The other is to play with, because he loves shooting. Meanwhile, his father Óscar tells us that tomorrow they will return to the HUCA hospital, and if there is not a compatible donor, they will have to have to do a marrow transplant, using Óscar’s own marrow, or marrow from Rafa’s mother. He explains the process of becoming a marrow donor, and how  most people are unaware of how, with five minutes of your time in one of the Red Cross buses that periodically circulate the cities, you too can form part of the worldwide marrow donor bank. His objective is to let everyone know how easy it is to become a donor and save lives, not just Rafa’s, but that of many other children, teenagers and people who are waiting on the generosity of another to fill them with hope.

This video from the Fundación Josep Carreras explains how you can be a donor, and help Rafa and many others all over the world. Give marrow, gift life!
