This afternoon, Real Oviedo travelled to Ribadeo for another preseason test, following their matches against Getafe, Villarreal, Genoa, and Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa. This time, Veljko Paunović’s team visited Pepe Barrera stadium to take on Dépor. Luengo and Rondón started again in the fight for the Emma Cuervo Trophy among a starting eleven that included Aarón, Nacho Vidal, Dani Calvo, Rahim, Reina, Sibo, Ilyas, Hassan, and Ilić.
It didn’t take long for Veljko Paunović’s group to threaten the Galician side. In the 9th minute, Reina swung in a wide free-kick that almost resulted in the opening goal, but the header went just wide. Two minutes later, Dépor responded by putting the ball in Aarón’s net, although the goal was disallowed. Both teams shared possession, and in the 18th minute Eddahchouri came close to breaking the deadlock—fortunately for us, the forward couldn’t get a clean strike away. In the 26th minute, Reina tried his luck with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box that narrowly missed the target. At the half-hour mark, the first substitution was made: Ovi came on for Hassan, who went off due to discomfort. Halftime.
The second half started with Real Oviedo on top, as Paunović’s men took the lead in the 48th minute through Fede Viñas, who came on alongside Moldovan, Costas, Cazorla, Brandon, Forés, Lucas, Tejón, Omar Falah and Marco Esteban. However, Los Carbayones’ joy was short-lived, with Dépor turning the game around with goals in the 56th and 61st minutes. It was a huge blow to Oviedo, who saw Antonio Hidalgo’s team come from behind in just five minutes. Despite fighting until the end, Real Oviedo suffered their first pre-season defeat in Ribadeo and were unable to claim the 74th edition of the Emma Cuervo Trophy, which went to the Galician side.
Final summer commitment
After the friendly at the Pepe Barrera, Paunović's team will resume training this Thursday at 10:30 at El Requexón, moving forward into the fourth week of the preseason.
The next and final preseason friendly for the Asturians will be on Saturday 9th August against Club Deportivo Leganés at Butarque.
