Today the presentation of the eleventh edition of Real Oviedo Camp (to take place next summer at Tensi Sport Centre) was held. The unveiling was attended by first team players Diego Cervero and Nacho López, as well as the event coordinator Marcos Fernández and representatives of the sponsoring companies.

More than 5,000 children, of more than ten nationalities, have taken part in this camp in the ten editions held so far, beating the record for participation year after year.

After the success achieved in past editions, and with the demand seen year after year, Real Oviedo Summer Camp XI will begin this June in Tensi Sport Centre. This will be the first time the Real Oviedo Camp has taken place with the first team back in La Liga, following promotion last season.

The coordinator of the event, Marcos Fernández, has explained that the camp will “aim to instil values which are marks of the identity of this club into the children. Effort, courage and teamwork, without forgetting about fun”, will in many cases be provided by first team players who have regularly visited participants in previous years.

Aimed at boys and girls born between 2002 and 2011, this year’s version will last for five weeks in total. It will begin on Monday 27 June, and end on Friday 29 July. A choice of different timetables will be available, in the same way as last year, with the option to sign up for mornings (from 9:00–15:00) or full days (9:00-18:00), with meals provided in the latter case. Bus transport (optional) is included as well as snacks during the morning and afternoon. Inscription in the camp is open to children aged between 4 and 15 years (born between 2002 and 2011), who will be placed in different groups according to age.

Registration is available at www.campusrealoviedo.es or on signup sheets at collaborating clubs, schools and other points of interest.

Diego Cervero, captain of the Real Oviedo first team, has noted that “Oviedismo has begun to be reborn. Now we must work with children and young people so that they too can become part of this excitement. They now know of Real Oviedo being in La Liga and go to school proud of their team. The kids have a great time at the camp, they see the badge all over the place and feel part of the club by attending the camp. This is the first step so that children have even more belief in Real Oviedo.”

Nacho López meanwhile has added that “it’s something nice. When I was young I had the opportunity to go to one, and the fact that it’s here at Real Oviedo and that you can do what you love the most is lovely, and for the kids it’s amazing. They have a great time, and it is a way of encouraging Oviedismo.”

With regards to the first team and the final stage of the season, Diego Cervero has called for caution. “We can’t count our chickens before they’ve hatched. You take for granted that you’ll win in Bilbao, and you lose. If we’d beaten Córdoba we’d have been right in the mix, but we didn’t anticipate losing against Huesca. We have been warned. We have to be very humble and work very hard. There are six matches left, there were some doubts and some small criticisms. Games like we played last Sunday are similar to finals; we were a man down, and the Tartiere and the players understood that it was a final, and fought until the very end. This is the path we have to continue on.”
