Rodri Tarín was officially presented as a new Real Oviedo player in the Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere this lunchtime.
The new signing was accompanied by the club's Head of Institutional Relations César Martín, who thanked the player for "the confidence he's placed in us and the interest he showed in coming." He highlighted the defender's "great qualities. He's complete, versatile, strong and quick, as well as able to adapt to other positions." The defender then took the time to respond to his first questions as a Real Oviedo player.
The player described himself as "happy" having signed a contract for the remainder of the season and three further campaigns. He highlighted that "Real Oviedo presented me with a project which I love, and I am completed committed. It's an important choice for me, but we have similar objectives and they will allow us to grow together. My values fit in with those of the club." In addition, regarding the Asturian club's efforts in signing him, the Valencian explained that "they had no problem with offering me a contract of that type. It shows that they have complete confidence in me. It makes me very happy and fully committed. It's going to be a magnificent time here."
Having passed a medical at Clínica Asturias yesterday, the player got to know his new coach, Cuco Ziganda, this morning at El Requexón, completing his first training session individually. His first impressions regarding the team, which he watched in action last weekend against Almería, are that "it's a great team which makes the opponent uncomfortable. The other day the team was brave, made them uncomfortable, and got a deserved victory."
With respect to his availability for the weekend, Rodri Tarín admitted that "I'm coming from a normal training rhythm and fully fit. I'm coming in to increase the competition for places, and to compete with two great players, who are playing every game. I like playing alongside good-quality players. I am coming in to compete and to help. If they are successful then it will be good for me, and vice versa. I've only been here a day, but I am very comfortable, happy, and proud of the decision I've taken."
Finally, asked about the team's ambitions to reach the playoff places, Rodri Tarín reasoned that "there should be that excitement. We are in a position that allows us to think about that target, but we mustn't lose our objectivity. There are a lot of teams around that area of the table, but we have that excitement."
Rodri Tarín will join up with the rest of the squad tomorrow, starting work alongside his new teammates when the side goes back into training at 10:30 at El Requexón.
